What a Ladakh DMC Handles — and What Stays With You
A Ladakh DMC is the ground team in Leh that turns your sale into a working trip: hotels and camps, local taxis, permits and fees, day plans that respect altitude, and fixes when a pass closes. You keep the client, the price and the margin.
| Task | You (the travel agent) | Bliss (your Ladakh DMC) |
|---|---|---|
| Client and selling price | You own the client, set the price and keep the margin | Never contacts or quotes your client |
| Flights or train to Leh | Book them, or ask us to suggest timings | Plans the first two days around the arrival time |
| Hotels and camps | Choose the category | Contracts and confirms Leh hotels, Nubra and Pangong camps |
| Transport | — | Ladakh-registered taxis through local partners for every sightseeing day |
| Fees and permits | Share guest IDs and nationality | Pays Indian fees, files foreigner PAPs, books Hanle visits |
| Vouchers and itinerary | Send them to your client | Prepares them under your agency’s name |
| On-trip problems | One call to us | Re-plans routes and rebooks night halts when weather closes a pass |
The First 48 Hours Decide the Whole Ladakh Trip
Most Ladakh complaints have nothing to do with the hotel. They start when a client lands in Leh at 7 am and is put in a car to Khardung La the same day.
Short answer for your client: the Leh district administration requires every tourist arriving in Leh to spend at least 48 hours acclimatising before going to higher areas such as Khardung La and Pangong Lake. Leh town, Shanti Stupa and the nearby monasteries are fine during those two days. Anything higher waits for day three.
Airport pickup, hotel, water and sleep. No sightseeing beyond a short walk. This is the day clients feel fine and then get headaches at night.
Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, Hall of Fame, a short drive to Thiksey or Hemis. Everything stays close to Leh’s altitude.
Only now does the vehicle cross Khardung La to Nubra or Chang La to Pangong. A client who skipped days one and two is the one who turns back.
Selling a 4N/5D Ladakh package with Pangong on day two? Rebuild it before the client pays. We do not run a high pass inside the first 48 hours, even if the itinerary asks for it. Clients with heart or lung conditions, and anyone pregnant, should check with their doctor before booking.
Ladakh Permits and Fees for 2026–27
Indian guests no longer need an Inner Line Permit, but they still pay fees before entering Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri or Hanle. Foreign guests still need a Protected Area Permit. Many websites — and some AI answers — still quote the old ILP rule to Indian clients. Don’t copy it.
| Guest | What they need | Cost | How it works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indian nationals | No ILP. Ladakh environment and wildlife fees instead | ₹400 environment fee + ₹50 Red Cross (one time) + ₹20 per person per day wildlife fee | Paid online on the LAHDC Leh permit portal or at the DC office in Leh. Print it — checkpoints at South Pullu and on the Pangong road ask for it. |
| Foreign nationals | Protected Area Permit (PAP) | About ₹600 per person | Issued only through a registered Leh travel agent, for groups of two or more. Passport and visa copies plus two photos; 1–2 working days in Leh. |
| Hanle (all guests) | Separate Hanle visit booking on top of the fee or PAP | Included in the trip cost | Hanle has a daily visitor cap. Send names at least three weeks before travel. |
| Restricted nationalities | Clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs | — | Applies to citizens of China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. Allow a month or more. |
Fees are set by the Ladakh administration and can change without much notice. We confirm the current amount on the portal before every booking and show it as a separate line in your quote.
Four Ladakh Rules That Change a Quote
Local taxis only for sightseeing
A Manali or Srinagar taxi can drop clients in Leh, but sightseeing inside Ladakh runs on Ladakh-registered taxis under local union rules. Quote the Leh taxi from day one — not the vehicle that brought the client in.
Prepaid SIMs from other states don’t work
Only postpaid connections work in Ladakh. Tell clients before they fly. Airtel, Jio and BSNL work in Nubra; Pangong has patchy Airtel; Hanle has little beyond BSNL.
Pass queues add an hour
Permits and vehicle numbers are checked at Khardung La, South Pullu and Chang La. In June and July, 30 to 60 minutes of waiting is normal, so we start high-pass days early.
Roads decide the season, not the calendar
Leh is open by air all year. The Manali–Leh highway opened to two-way tourist traffic on 1 June in 2026 and usually closes in late October or November. Never sell a road arrival before the road is officially open.
Ladakh Route Map and Driving Times
Distances look short on a phone. Mountain roads, pass queues and photo stops do not. Use the map to explain the route to your client and the table to build the day plan.
| Leg | Approx. distance | Approx. driving time | Pass on the way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leh – Hunder (Nubra) | 125 km | 4.5 – 5 hours | Khardung La |
| Hunder – Turtuk | 85 km | 3 hours | — |
| Nubra – Pangong (Shyok route) | 160 km | 6 – 7 hours | — (road condition varies) |
| Leh – Pangong | 160 km | 5 hours | Chang La |
| Leh – Tso Moriri | 215 km | 6 – 7 hours | — |
| Leh – Hanle | 270 km | 7 – 8 hours | — |
| Leh – Kargil | 215 km | 5 – 6 hours | Fotu La, Namik La |
| Manali – Leh | 430 km | Two days, night at Jispa or Sarchu | Baralacha La, Taglang La |
| Srinagar – Leh | 420 km | Two days, night at Kargil | Zojila |
Our rule: one high pass per day, and back at the hotel before dark. Nubra and Pangong on the same day is the most common Ladakh mistake we are asked to fix.
Where Your Clients Sleep — and How High
Sleeping altitude matters more than the hotel’s star rating. Clients who sleep badly at Pangong usually slept too high, too early.
| Night halt | Approx. altitude | Type of stay | Tell your client |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leh | 3,500 m | 3-star to boutique and heritage hotels | Two or three nights here; the only stop with full hotel comfort and heating in winter. |
| Nubra (Hunder, Diskit) | 3,100 m | Camps, cottages and small hotels | Lower than Leh — the easiest night of the circuit. |
| Turtuk | 2,900 m | Guesthouses and homestays | Simple stays in a Balti village; sell it for the experience, not the room. |
| Pangong (Spangmik, Lukung, Merak) | 4,225 m | Camps and a few cottages | The coldest night. Pack layers even in July; power may be limited to evening hours. |
| Tso Moriri (Korzok) | 4,500 m | Camps and guesthouses | Only after Pangong or a full week in Ladakh. Basic facilities. |
| Hanle | 4,300 m | Homestays | For stargazers; book early because of the visitor cap. |
Ladakh Circuits Agents Sell Most
All formats start and end at Leh airport unless marked as road trips. Every one keeps the first two nights in Leh. Send dates and group size for nett rates.

Ladakh Season and Festival Calendar 2026–27
Monastery festival dates follow the Tibetan lunar calendar and can move by a day. We reconfirm them the week before travel.
| When | What is happening | What it means for your quote |
|---|---|---|
| November – February | Winter. Leh by air only | Many Leh, Nubra and Pangong properties stay open with heating. Keep one buffer day for snow on Khardung La or Chang La. |
| 9 Dec 2026 | Losar, Ladakhi New Year | Leh is festive and quiet at the same time — a good hook for winter culture trips. |
| 5 – 6 Jan 2027 | Spituk Gustor | Masked dances at Spituk, close to Leh airport. Easy to add to any winter itinerary. |
| January – February | Chadar trek season | Booked only through an ALTOA-registered operator, with a medical clearance in Leh. Dates depend on the ice each winter. |
| 4 – 5 Feb 2027 | Dosmoche | Winter festival at Leh Palace and Likir. Hotels in Leh fill for the two days. |
| April – May | Shoulder season | Leh by air, lower rates, fewer cars on Khardung La. Pangong may still be partly frozen in April. |
| June – September | Peak season, roads open | Highest demand and longest pass queues. Confirm Leh hotels 6 to 8 weeks out for groups. |
| 13 – 14 Jul 2027 | Hemis Tsechu | Ladakh’s biggest monastery festival. Rooms near Hemis and in Leh sell out first. |
| 21 – 24 Sep 2027 | Ladakh Festival, Leh | Cultural programme across Leh — good for late-season groups. |

Contracted hotels and camps

Ladakh-registered taxis

Fees and PAP

Acclimatisation-first plans
Every air itinerary keeps the first 48 hours in Leh. For road trips from Manali, we plan the climb so the client gains height gradually.
Weather re-planning
If Chang La or Khardung La closes for snow, we swap the day order and rebook the night halt — you get a message, not a complaint.
White-label paperwork

Ladakh DMC Questions Agents Ask Us
What does a Ladakh DMC do for a travel agent?
A Ladakh DMC is the ground partner in Leh that books hotels and camps, arranges Ladakh-registered taxis, handles Indian fees and foreigner Protected Area Permits, plans the days around the 48-hour acclimatisation rule, and fixes routes when weather closes a pass. The travel agent keeps the client, the selling price and the margin.
Do Indian tourists need an Inner Line Permit for Ladakh in 2026?
No. The Inner Line Permit for Indian nationals was replaced by fees: ₹400 environment fee and ₹50 Red Cross contribution once per visit, plus a ₹20 per person per day wildlife fee for areas such as Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and Hanle. They are paid online on the LAHDC Leh portal or at the DC office in Leh.
What permit do foreign tourists need for Nubra and Pangong?
A Protected Area Permit. It is issued only through a registered travel agent in Leh, for groups of two or more, against passport and visa copies, and usually takes one to two working days. Citizens of China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Sri Lanka need clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs instead.
Is the 48-hour acclimatisation in Leh compulsory?
Yes. The Leh district administration requires every tourist arriving in Leh to acclimatise for at least 48 hours before going to higher areas such as Khardung La and Pangong Lake. Short sightseeing around Leh town is allowed during that time.
Can my client’s Manali taxi do sightseeing in Ladakh?
It can drop them in Leh, but local sightseeing in Ladakh runs on Ladakh-registered taxis under local union rules. We quote the Leh taxi separately from the arrival transfer.
Will my client’s mobile work in Ladakh?
Only postpaid connections work; prepaid SIMs from other states do not. Airtel, Jio and BSNL work in Leh and most of Nubra, Pangong coverage is patchy, and Hanle has very limited BSNL signal.
What is the best time to sell a Ladakh package?
June to September for road trips and the full circuit, when the Manali–Leh and Srinagar–Leh roads are open. April–May and October suit air packages with lower rates. December to February works for winter trips by air, with buffer days for snow.
How many nights does a first Ladakh trip need?
Five nights is the minimum that covers Leh, Nubra and Pangong safely: two nights in Leh first, one in Nubra, one at Pangong and one back in Leh. Add a night for Turtuk or two for Tso Moriri.
Is Ladakh open for tourists in winter?
Yes, by air. Leh, Nubra and Pangong can be visited from December to February, many hotels stay open with heating, and the Chadar trek runs in January and February. The Manali–Leh road is closed, so every winter trip flies into Leh, and each itinerary needs a buffer day for snow on the passes.
Can you arrange Hanle for stargazing clients?
Yes. Hanle is about seven to eight hours from Leh and needs a separate visit booking because of a daily visitor cap, so we ask for guest names at least three weeks before travel.
Sources We Check Before Every Season
This page is written and checked by the Bliss North India desk, the team that quotes and runs Ladakh trips for our agent partners. Rules on this page come from official Ladakh sources and are reviewed before each season and whenever a notice changes:

- LAHDC Leh — online permit and fee portal
- Ladakh Police — tourist safety advisories
Road opening dates, festival dates and fees can change at short notice. We reconfirm each one for your travel dates before we send the quote.
